While talking about self improvement, there is the danger of emphasizing just a few aspects of it at the expense of others. For example, some people may emphasize more on the financial aspect at the expense of relationships aspect. Some other people may emphasize more on the relationships aspect at the expense of the health aspect. Whatever it is, unbalanced view of self improvement is dangerous because it can lead you to having an unbalanced life.
What you need to have above anything else is balance. There’s no way you can have a healthy growth in your personal development if your life is not balanced. While in the short term it may seem that you improve in your life, in the long term the unbalance will cause you to suffer. That’s why you need to pay special attention to the balance of your life from the very beginning before it’s too late.
To have a balanced life, you need to identify the important aspects of your life. List them all. The main ones are your finance which includes your career, your health, and your relationships. Of course, there could be other aspects but these are what I have in mind right now. Next, you should find the aspects in which you lack and put special effort to improve yourself there. By doing this continuously it’s likely that you will have a balanced life.

If you want to achieve big things in life, you have to improve yourself continuously day by day. It’s important because the road to success is long and you can only take a few steps each day. If you don’t improve yourself daily, it’s easy to forget that you need to improve at all and soon you will see that you’ve been left behind by many other people. On the other hand, if you are willing to improve yourself daily you will be surprised to see how far you’ve gone after a few years.
In fact, this is the principle of growth in the universe. Just look at any plant. Can the plant suddenly reach a big, mature size? No. It has to grow daily to eventually reach that size. Even giant trees are the results of small growth day by day. Similarly, if you take even small steps to grow each day, you will see that you eventually become a giant tree.
This is related to previous post on discipline. You can only grow day by day if you have self discipline. Otherwise, it’s easy for you to just follow your mood than doing what you need to do. By having self discipline, you will have what it takes to grow daily and at the end finish the long journey to success.

If you want to improve your life, there is one important thing you should have: self discipline. Why? Because there are things that you should do regardless of whether you feel like it or not. Without discipline, it’s easy for you to just stop when you don’t want to do something. This way you will experience up and down periods in your self improvement. On the other hand, if you are disciplined, you will consistently do what is right to do. You will always do things that will give you the biggest benefit in the long term.
Long term is actually a key word when it comes to discipline. The essence of discipline is the willingness to choose short term pain in order to get long term gain. While you may feel inconvenient in the short term (which is normal when it comes to building discipline), discipline will benefit you greatly in the long term.
How do you build discipline? In essence, there are two things to do: determine what you think is the right thing to do and choose to do it even if you need to take short term pain for that.

There is an important thing you must understand if you are to improve your life: your self improvement is your responsibility. It’s easy to blame other people or the environment when something goes wrong in your life, but that’s not the right thing to do. It is you and only who determines whether or not your life improves. If you decide that you want to improve and take the necessary actions, then you will improve. Otherwise you will stagnate and there’s nothing other people can do about it. It’s as simple as that.
Taking responsibility for your life means that when something goes wrong you can’t blame other people. While it’s true that external factors play a role on things that happen in your life, at the end it’s you who determine how you are going to respond to them. Perhaps you can’t control external events but you can always control your responses to them. You are responsible for your responses for every situation you face. No external factor can affect you negatively unless your responses open the way for that.
Once you understand this, you are on the right track for self improvement. You can then start working on improving your life as it should be.

If you want to have strong growth in your life, there is one essential thing you must have: the desire to learn. Only by having the desire to learn can you get the most out of your experiences and consequently grow yourself. If you don’t have the desire to learn, most likely you will just go through your life as it is without trying to get the most out of it.
The next question then is how to build the desire to learn. I think first of all you should have a goal you want to achieve. If you don’t have a goal, you will easily be satisfied with your current condition. In such situation, it could be difficult to find reasons to grow let alone to have the drive to be your best. You need to have a goal first.
After you find your goal, you will see the difference between where you are right now and where you want to be. Being aware of this difference will motivate you to do what it takes to move to your goal.
